HF 100 - Introduction to Human Factors

1-Day seminar
Prerequisites: None

Human Factors is a diverse and ever-evolving field. With thousands of human factors, usability, and human-computer interaction articles being published every year, it is impossible to teach everything in a reasonable amount of time. However, there is a core set of principles and standards that can be extracted from this large body of research. This core knowledge is the primary focus of this seminar. In addition, attendees will learn how to find, interpret, and apply human factors research to product design. HF 100 is a prerequisite for all other seminars.

HF 200 - Effective Human-Computer Interaction Design

1-Day seminar
Prerequisite: HF 100 – Introduction to Human Factors

Effective Human-Computer Interaction Design presents user interface design techniques for developing usable graphical user interfaces for consumer software. Building off of the core human factors principles and standards learned in HF 100, the primary focuses of this seminar are on learning how to develop user interface screen flows that match user workflows and on learning detailed screen design standards. In addition, attendees will learn about incorporating user feedback into the development lifecycle as part of a user-centered design process.

HF 201 - Effective Human-Web Interaction Design

1-Day seminar
Prerequisite: HF 100 – Introduction to Human Factors

Effective Human-Web Interaction Design presents user interface design techniques for developing usable web user interfaces while maintaining website aesthetics. Building off of the core human factors principles and standards learned in HF 100, the primary focuses of this seminar are on learning how to develop navigation structures that match user expectations and on learning detailed screen design standards. In addition, attendees will learn about incorporating user feedback into the development lifecycle as part of a user-centered design process, as well as accessibility and internationalization considerations.

HF 202 – Fast and Frugal Usability Evaluation

1-Day seminar
Prerequisite: HF 100 – Introduction to Human Factors

Fast and Frugal Usability Evaluation teaches practical techniques to enhancing the usability of any system. Building off of the core human factors principles and standards learned in HF 100, the primary focuses of this seminar are incorporating user-centered design activates and evaluating interfaces based users’ abilities, limitations, mental models, and other characteristics. In addition, this seminar lays out a plan for the team to efficiently and effectively incorporate usability evaluation activities into the company’s current development lifecycle.

HF 203 - Cognitive Task Analysis

1-Day seminar
Prerequisite: HF 100 – Introduction to Human Factors

Cognitive Task Analysis teaches eight useful cognitive task analysis techniques for the company’s front-end process. With so many cognitive task analysis techniques available, this seminar is tailored to your company based on its products and objectives by teaching only those activities that will impact your company’s front-end process the most. In addition to learning how to plan, perform, and analyze cognitive task analysis data, attendees learn how to use these results for generating requirements that enhance the user experience.

HF 300 – Current Research in Human Factors

1-Day seminar
Prerequisite: HF 100 – Introduction to Human Factors

Current Research in Human Factors teaches attendees about recent human factors research. The focus of this seminar is on practical applications of the most recent cutting-edge discoveries in human factors, human-computer interaction, human-web interaction, psychology, and computer science that advance the design and evaluation of products. Based on this recently published literature, attendees learn and discuss practical applications of these recent findings to the design of the company’s products.
